Background

JPGphotography is the brainchild of Joshua Peter Grafstein. With the initials JPG, it seems that I was destined for a career in digital photography.

I was born in Toronto,Ontario in the late 1980′s, where I spent the first few months. It was only a few months after I was born that my family decided to move to the north shore suburbs of Chicago where my mother grew up.From a very early age I was encouraged to be creative, and because my mother worked as a portrait photographer, I spent most of my childhood playing around in her studio. Once I entered High School my mother gave me my first SLR and started to give me 1 on 1 lessons in the art of photography. It was also around this time that I began studying film production, graphic design, and photography at Highland Park High School. After high school I was very fortunate to have been accepted to the University of British Columbia, and because I am extremely lucky to be a dual citizen of both the United States and Canada, I was able to enrol as a canadian student at the university of British Columbia and moved to Vancouver in the fall of 2005.
